Now Make Your Claims:

It’s time to claim your tax relief as:
N200,000 + 20% of the gross income (or 200,000 +  1% of the gross income; whichever is higher)
If you are through with the equations, you may now proceed to calculate your tax commitment.
You can now use any of these following methods.
  • First, with the figure generated in equation 2 , you can now deduct all investment incomes you have received such as dividend and interest (unearned incomes) on which tax had been deducted already, to arrive at the net taxable income, OR
  • Secondly, leave the figure generated in equation 2 the way it is and work out your tax liability the normal way. So that, you now minus all taxes you had earlier on paid on your unearned income.  I prefer this because it meets the minimum disclosure principle.
