As a health & safety manager at the Co-op, you’ll be a point of expert advice and guidance. You’ll lead health and safety and build relations with key stakeholders. You will be asked to audit our construction supply chain- making sure sites in your region are fully compliant with relevant legislation.
We’ll look to you to drive standards, and set a new benchmark for H&S compliance across the Co-op supplier base. Working as part of a brand new team, you’ll spend time in our state of the art support centre sharing best practice and developing our H&S strategy.
And your ultimate goal will be to establish yourself as a trusted H&S expert with stakeholders across our retail business.
Scope of job and Responsibilities:
- Lead health and Safety in the Construction sector.
- Be a point of expert advice and guidance
- Develop pro-active and forward thinking methods of improving safety performance
- Carry out audits and inspections on retail construction sites across the region
- Work with suppliers to address any issues that arise from audits and inspections
- Chair safety meetings and work closely with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Provide monthly MI and dashboards on key H&S measures

Your Experience matters:
To be successful as a Health & Safety Manager, you’ll need to be an experienced H&S professional who’s accustomed to the fast-paced world of retail fit out and development. We’ll need you to bring some basic qualifications, but we’re also committed to helping you develop in that area- so a real desire to learn on the job and achieve your CMIOSH accreditation is essential.
What you’ll bring:
- Significant experience in an H&S role (could be client side or contractor)
- Minimum graduate level IOSH accreditation
- Strong experience in a CDM regulated environment
- Retail experience/exposure, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
Please note – this is a field based role predominantly covering the North region however nation-wide travel may be required.
